Calderon Corruption Trial Postponed

State Senator Ron Calderon has convinced federal prosecutors to delay his public corruption trial until May 19, 2015, by which time he will no longer be in office.  His term expires in November.

Calderon is accused of taking bribes from an FBI agent posing as a movie studio executive, and also from an executive at a health care firm in exchange for assisting with legislation relating to workers compensation.

The defense had sound reasons for seeking the continuance:  there is voluminous discovery to review in this case, which include 280,000 pages of bank records, 3,900 pages of grand jury testimony, 2,000 wiretapped phone calls.
