Former Councilman Gets Home Arrest in Bell Corruption Case

George Cole, one of the five former Bell city council members convicted on corruption charges, was sentenced to 180 days’ home confinement today.  He was also ordered to pay $77,000 in restitution and perform 1,000 hours of community service.  Prosecutors had asked for 4 years in prison.

Earlier this month another former councilman, George Mirabal, was sentenced to a year in prison and ordered to pay $242,000 in restitution.  He is due to surrender this Friday.

Robert Rizzo and Angela Spaccia, the maestros of the corrupt scheme to pay Bell officials grossly inflated salaries and benefits, have already begun serving their respective sentences of 12 and 11 years.
