Temple City

In 2009, the District Attorney indicted the mayor of Temple City, Judy Wong and its former mayor, Cathe Wilson, for taking $13,100 in bribes from a local developer in exchange for supporting his $75 million development project.  Both were charged with violating Penal Code § 68, which applies to executive officers accepting bribes.  This was a charging mistake, because both were technically legislative officers; the indictment was therefore later amended to charge violations of Penal Code § 86.

Wong pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 16 months in state prison.  Wilson was convicted at trial and ultimately received a four-year sentence.
